Sports and Literacy

Tuesday August 4th,

Today students continued working on their presentations. The information that they are gathering is really interesting. We also introduced the visual component to their presentation today. Students will have to create a poster to accompany their induction speech. Also today we spent some time in the pool. The students love to swim!

Monday August 3rd,

Our last session of Sports and Literacy Camp has begun. During these two weeks students will be selecting their sports hero or icon, researching that person and preparing for a "Hall of Fame" induction ceremony next Thursday. It is very interesting seeing all of the professional athletes that our young student athletes look up to.

Monday July 27th,

Sports and Literacy students began their Monday morning by putting the finishing touches on their Project Posters. From there, all students participated in a Gallery Walk. During this stage of the process, students visit peer projects and leave notes pertaining to things they "Liked" and "Wondered". Following the Gallery Walk, students spent time reflecting on the Post-It notes that were left on their posters. The feedback and revision process is so fun to watch!

July 20th,

Session 2 began today! During this session students are being challenged to create an obstacle course. Session 2 has significantly more participants than Session 1 did so we are breaking up into six groups. Each group will plan, design and present on a 100' "American Ninja Warrior/American Gladiator" style obstacle course. Below are photos of our campers in the initial stages of their planning.

July 14th,
Today the kids were able to get in the school's 25 yard pool. We had relay races and then played water polo. Many of the kids had no idea how much strength it took to play water polo. We then played Sodger. After lunch we took the kids outside to play Extreme baseball! They worked on refining their presentations and the MVP athlete.

Day 5-

Today we began the day by working on our presentations. As part of the final presentation, each group will be responsible for creating a team logo and uniform. Later today, we will be conducting a critical friends review where each team member gets to present their ideas to other classmates and gain their support and feedback.

During our Critical Friends session, students were able to pick up some great ideas, praise and feedback from their peers. This has helped them to share and revise their work. These projects are really coming together nicely!

Today students continued working on their new sports. During our morning session, Group 1 was able to present their sport to the rest of the class. From here, we spent an hour playing their sport. After we returned from lunch, Group 1 displayed their work in the hall for a Gallery Walk. High School principal Mr. Warden came down to meet the group and see all of their hard work.
